HTWD Picks of the Week: The Hyundai Tournament of Champions

Here it is, everyone! The debut of the 2012 PGA Tour Season starts tomorrow in Hawaii! To kick things off, we will begin our season long "Picks of the Week" segment at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions. If you have forgotten the rules we go by, or have never seen us do this type of blog before, just go ahead and read the description we have on the side of our homepage. We've done a bit of a format change for this year, as we will now just share our pics off one blog to create less confusion. Also, at the end of this competition, the losing blogger has to buy the winner dinner. So, It'll definitely make each pick count. Here we go, and enjoy!!!

JJ: Welcome to the new year, everyone!! Boy that off-season was long, wasn't it? Almost felt like it never happened! Anyways, here we are at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, and back at our Picks of the Week! In case you don't recall, Bernardo took down the inaugural Pick of the Week race last year, winning many picks in a row to never really lose his lead. Well, that's going to definitely change this time around, because there is no way I'm going to lose this year! I definitely don't want to pay for a dinner, and I'm going to be much craftier on my picks this year. That's why I'm starting off this season by selecting defending champion Jonathan Byrd (right). Why, Byrd, you ask? Well that's simple. For one, the dude is the defending champ. Obviously, he is a fast starter and shakes rust off easily. And secondly, he has had good success in years past too, collecting a couple of high finishes in this "winner's only" field, so he knows how to beat good talent on a great golf course. So there it is. The Byrd is the word! (My apologies for that bad and overused pun, just had to do it)

Bernardo: My fellow blogger seemed to sum up the previous year nicely, so I’ll move on to my first pick of year! The PGA Tour kicks off the season in beautiful Hawaii for the Hyundai Tournament of Champions. Show casing only players who won in the 2011 season. This week I’m picking Martin Laird (left), mainly to start the season pretty quiet. Laird has some positive history at Kapalua, finishing top 5, back in 2010. The guy has a beefy stick and by that I mean driving distance, which at the Plantation course is very favorable. Obviously, he knows how to win,  so it wouldn’t be surprising to see his name on the leader board on Sunday. With such a stacked field it is difficult to predict a winner but, this will be a preview what is to come.
