Kirk the Viking

Chris Kirk 2011 Viking Classic Champ
Everyone tends to shove the Viking Classic to the side since it is played during the same week of the British Open. This low profile event rarely has any of the popular names, but allows rookies and veterans a chance to win a tournament. The Viking classic is held at Annandale Golf club in Madison, MS. The course layout allows players to score well, the only factor can be the hot weather which can be hard on the players. This year’s champion was Chris Kirk which is rookie on tour. Kirk is the fifth rookie on tour to win a tournament this season. Surprisingly Kirk made his professional debut at the Viking Classic in 2007, but missed the cut, a different story this week. Kirk fired four rounds under-par, leading the field in number of birdies, with 23. Not to mention Kirk is sponsored by Travis Mathew, an up and coming clothing brand. Tom Pernice, Jr currently playing full time on the Champions Tour, had a hot week finishing one shot short of Kirk. Stay tune for our pick of the week blogs for the RBC Canadian Open, tend then have a good week folks.
