PGA Tour: Jimmy Walker's Dominance

Okay, first off, let me apologize for not writing anything for a week. The Super Bowl had me in a state of shock, and I am barely getting around to functioning without football and getting back in the groove of watching golf.

And since I've been back on the golf grind, there's been a certain American player who's lighting up the PGA Tour...

Nope, it's not Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson. It's Jimmy (freaking) Walker!!!

Jimmy Walker is dominating the tour much like Tiger would. Even though he almost blew a 6 shot lead at Pebble Beach today, creating a 6 shot lead in the first place means you've been playing some great golf. Holding off names such as Hunter Mahan, Jordan Spieth, and Dustin Johnson only reaffirms that.

I'm sure that I'm not the only one questioning how long this will last for Walker. Is he in the form of his life? Absolutely. Can he maintain this for the whole season? I'm not so sure. Golf is a streaky game, and even though he's been on a crazy tear (3 wins in 8 starts this season), everyone tends to cool off eventually. It'll be interesting to see what Jimmy can do when the pressure goes up another level, like at Augusta or at the upcoming WGC events. If he can contend in those events, then I'll be sold.

At 35, Jimmy Walker is not considered an "up and coming" talent. He's in the middle of his career playing some wonderful golf. If he can keep this up, then it'll easily be one of the stories of the year. But for now, let's just wait and see what else this soon-to-be-named "later bloomer" can do.

Congratulations Jimmy!
